SENIOR DOGS STILL NEED REGULAR WALKS

🐾Many people assume that once a dog reaches its senior years, all it needs is a comfortable bed and plenty of rest. While older dogs do enjoy their naps, regular walks remain essential for their health and wellbeing.

🐾As dogs age, they naturally lose muscle strength, flexibility, and stamina. Gentle exercise helps maintain mobility, supports healthy weight management, and can reduce stiffness in ageing joints. Even a short daily walk can make a noticeable difference.

🐾Walks also provide valuable mental stimulation. New sights, sounds, smells, and experiences help keep an older dog’s mind active and engaged. For many senior dogs, a walk around the neighbourhood is still the highlight of their day.

🐾Regular exercise can improve circulation, support digestive health, and help reduce boredom and anxiety. It also strengthens the bond between dog and owner through shared time and attention. Senior dogs may not be able to walk as far or as fast as they once did, but that doesn’t mean they should stop walking altogether. The key is to match the walk to the dog’s age, fitness, and comfort level.

🐾Age should never be an excuse for inactivity. A gentle walk, plenty of sniffing opportunities, and time spent outdoors can help an older dog stay healthier, happier, and more connected to the world around them throughout their golden years.
